Instituto Cervantes, the official Spanish cultural center is hosting the fist Spanish university fair on February 19 -20, 2011 inclusive both days at New Delhi. Since its operation in 2007 Instituto Cervantes is actively involved in promoting Spanish language and culture in India. Its activities to promote Brand Spain in India has increased manifold after it got its brand new three storey building functional in 2009. Under leadership of its Director, Dr. Oscar Pujol, in addition to offering various courses in Spanish language, Instituto Cervantes has been organizing a series of events, expositions, seminars and conferences which has injected a new life amongst hispanistas of India. For the first time, Spain’s top 20 universities are coming to India to showcase their courses and expertise. All participating 20 universities are part of Universidad.es Foundation. Created by Spanish Government in October 2008, Universidad.es is a Public Foundation dedicated to International Promotion of the Spanish Universities. It represents the whole of the Spanish University system, which comprises of 77 public and private Universities.
During the press conference held on February 17, 2011, Dr. Jose Manuel Martinez, Director of the Foundation and head of the Spanish delegation explained that Spain offers quality education at much lower cost, and that in majority of the cases 70% of the university fees are public funded that makes Spain a better place for students who would only need to focus on studies without worrying much about their cost of living. Spanish universities offer a series of courses in Art & Humanities along with Science & technology that provide whole range of titles and degrees covering 2000+under graduate, 2000+ Post Graducate and 1000+ doctorate.
Dr. Martinez also stressed on the quality of education that Spain offers in comparison to USA, UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand that have been popular destination of education for Indian students. While explaining the importance of Spanish Education system and its advantages, Dr. Oscar Pujol, the Director of Instituto Cervantes (Host) emphasized on the benefits of learning Spanish language that increases prospects of employability at global front. He also expressed that Spain offers a welcoming environment for all its visitors and that Indian students would find it to be a better place to live in – welcome to Spain.
