The new era of Spanish learning starts in India

Instituto Cervantes, New Delhi center celebrated today the Spanish Language Day ushering in the new era of Spanish learning in India.

The celebration started with a welcome address by the Director Dr. Oscar Pujol who welcomed the gathering of more than 1000 in numbers that consisted of invited guests, students, children, parents and future Spanish learners. Overwhelmed by the response to the call, Mr. Gonzalo Ortiz, Minister Counselor of Spanish Embassy took the opportunity to explain to the audience, the resolve of the Spanish government towards developing engagement with India in socio-cultural and economic relations. The welcome address ended with special homage to the Catalan philanthropist and world known Social worker Vicente Ferrer, who died on June 19 at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Ex-Jesuit and his team is known to have helped more than 2.5 million people in Andhra Pradesh through humanitarian projects.Cervantes

Immediately after the welcome address, the entrance area of Center’s premises was filled with a spectacular “shower of words”. The most popular Spanish words “amor”, “beso”, “chocolate”, “fiesta”, “Sonrisa” etc. chosen by the students were launched through special canon fixed at the roof of the four storied building of Instituto Cervantes.

As per the schedule, the doors were opened for the visitors to enjoy Spanish music, Spanish television-Cinema, Spanish Karaoke, Spanish book sales, tourist information followed by food stalls and showcase of information by Latin American Embassies from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, México, Paraguay, Perú, República Dominicana, El Salvador, Uruguay & Venezuela. In addition, the well known Argentinean Chorographer and Dancer Mr. Fernando Aguilero presented Tango show and conducted dance classes.

Mr. Ravi Kumar, the Executive Director of HISPANICINDIA gave a presentation on “Careers in Languages: Job Opportunities for Spanish Speakers” followed by career counseling to the students interested in making a career out of Spanish language. Mr. Kumar’s presence added value to the Spanish Language Day celebration that also had in its agenda – “Providing Professional Guidance to Spanish Speaking Job Seekers”.

To give a feel of Spanish learning, the native professors of Instituto Cervantes organized introductory lessons in Spanish for Children, students and parents followed by videos and interactive sessions that encouraged more than 100 students to enroll at the center for various Spanish language courses that it offers.

Later part of the Spanish Language Day became more colourful when Mexican Embassy under coordination of its Naval Attaché Mr. Jose Luis Osorio Roman organized a Fashion Show that represented various dress codes and attires of Mexico.  Simultaneously, the Embassy of Chile added flavour to the evening by inviting visitors to taste the red wine produced in Chile followed by a concert by the Chilean musicians Pascuala and Jaime who made the evening lively. For the music lovers it was a fantastic evening as they enjoyed dancing to the tune of the young musicians who played popular numbers on demand making Spanish Language Celebration day a memorable one.

At the end, Ms. Ana Reguillo, the Education Head of Instituto Cervantes, New Delhi expressed her sincere thanks to visitors, participants and organizers for making the event a grand success.
